P38 Tailgate Button Repair Kit
Price includes 99p postage fee.
If your Range Rover P38a tailgate release button has become
crunchy when operated or worse, fails to open, then you need to
replace the Spring and 'o' ring within the housing. As far as I know
Landrover don't sell a service kit for the button. I couldn't find
anyone who could supply me one either.
A new button unit from Landrover is about £90 plus vat.
A second hand button can be had at a fraction of that cost but the
spring and 'o' ring will be at least 16 years old.
So, I've developed my own service kit comprising of a stainless
steel tension spring and a nitrile 'o' ring. The spring is an upgrade
from what Landrover fitted, as I believe it was a galvanised mild
steel one.
Easy to fit, and just in case, I've made a short video on YouTube
showing you how.

Check out the picture showing the old and new spring and 'o' ring. You can see how the spring has reduced to metal dust. I have also
included a pic showing what could lurk within.
I will compress the spring to protect it in the post, which is 1st class and free.
Feel free to post any questions.

International. It is set to feature again with a full 'how to' write up in an upcoming issue.
